ACNA’s Special Jurisdiction for the Armed Forces and Chaplaincy

The Special Jurisdiction for the Armed Forces and Chaplaincy (SJAFC) of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) is the official home for ACNA-endorsed Chaplains. Established under the ACNA's canons, the Special Jurisdiction provides leadership, pastoral care, and oversight for ACNA clergy serving as chaplains to ensure these chaplains remain connected to the wider church in their unique callings and provide spiritual covering for their families and ministries.

With more than 200 chaplains as of 2025, and more than 150 of them serving as active-duty military chaplains, the Special Jurisdiction is the principal endorser of ACNA military chaplains in the United States.

Our Leadership

The Special Jurisdiction for the Armed Forces and Chaplaincy is a ministry of the Anglican Church in North America and is under the oversight of the office of the Archbishop of the ACNA.

ACNA Military Endorser

The Anglican Church is proud to have the Right Reverend David Bena, retired Bishop in the Diocese of The Living Word, as the registered military endorser for ACNA-affiliated chaplains.

ABOUT US

The Special Jurisdiction for the Armed Forces and Chaplaincy of the Anglican Church in North America is the official home for ACNA-endorsed Chaplains. The ACNA has two official Chaplain Endorsers registered with the Armed Forces Chaplains Board:  Bishop David Bena (Diocese of the Living Word). The ACNA Chaplains are led by the Right Reverend Jerome (Jay) R. Cayangyang, Captain, Chaplain Corps, United States Navy, as the Second Bishop of the Armed Forces and Chaplaincy.  The Reformed Episcopal Church is a founding “sub-jurisdiction” of the Anglican Church in North America and has its own ecclesiastical endorser for all chaplains who are canonically resident with the Reformed Episcopal Church.
