ACNA Chaplains
2026 Lenten Study

As we look toward Lent, I want to invite us all to something that may offer quiet help to our prayer and ministry this season. Church Society has prepared 40 short daily Lenten readings from The Country Parson by George Herbert, each accompanied by thoughtful commentary from Lee Gatiss.

The reflections are brief yet rich, and well-suited for chaplains who think deeply about pastoral life, vocation, and faithfulness in ordinary places. We’ll also take a few minutes to reflect on these readings during our Wednesday Midday Prayer throughout Lent.

There’s no obligation here, just an invitation to read along through Lent. I hope you will all join us as you are able, especially on Wednesdays.

Praying that this Lent brings renewal and rest to all our lives and ministries.

Abiding in Him,

+Jay

A word about George Herbert:

George Herbert (1593–1633) was an Anglican priest and poet who left a promising academic career to serve a small country parish. His writing flows from lived pastoral experience and a deep love for Scripture, prayer, and the care of souls.

We're not limited to the online readings - The Country Parson is also available through Amazon if you prefer to read the book itself.
